I Can Do What I Want!
If the cover of Under the Moonlight looks like it was drawn by a kid, that's because it was!
In the real world I have the opportunity to work with kids. I told a kid about this project and they offered to draw something for me. After it was published, I took them to Yellow Bird Books and said, "Congratulations, you're a published artist at 11!" I just wanted this kid to feel good about themself.
I ran into them recently and they couldn't believe I was still selling the game at the bookstore. They told me they were a lot better artist and they could do a better job now. I told them if they want to redraw the picture, I'll swap it out.
I think my favorite thing about self publishing is, "I can do what I want!"
If I want to let a kid draw the front cover, I can!
If people tell me, "It looks like a kid drew it."
I say, "A kid did! Isn't it great?"
I think it would be cool if this kid drew a new cover and showed everyone how much they've improved.
I would keep the original available, I just would offer Cover 2024 and Cover 202X, etc...
It would be extra cool if every few years I continued to replace the cover and just show how this kid becomes a more sophisticated artist.
That would be exciting, and I feel really lucky that I can do what I want!
